10 working from home products that will keep you productive in 2020

The pandemic managed to convince a lot of business of a fact that I always highlighted, that many could remain efficient and reduce overheads by allowing more of their staff to work from home. With a great set up from our recommendations below, you can continue to be productive like a boss. We will particularly look at designs with ergonomics in mind. We will only be recommending products with a score of at least 4.5 out of 5 on customer feedback. Let's get straight into it;

1. L-Shaped Computer Workstation

Depending on the space you have, whether it's the garage or spare room, this L-Shaped design will transform your home office.

 With this set up you can have multiple screens and other equipment. This has 4.5 stars out of 5 from 1856 Amazon reviews. Get yours here. In terms of value, at the time of writing there is £30 off and an additional 5% off if you hurry.

2. Adjustable Laptop Stand

4. Dell Latitude E7470 Ultrabook Laptop 14" Touchscreen Notebook

The beauty of Amazon is not only that you can save as a Prime member, but they also professionally refurbish items. We found this high-value item reduced for that reason. The laptop has an i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Most importantly, it has a touchscreen and Windows 10 professional. This is a big deal because some employers give dated non-touch laptops to their staff. For me, this has a huge impact on productivity. I have always had a self-funded, more expensive, Surface or Surface Book because that suits how I work. The difference could be the 6 minutes my work laptop took to boot up, compared with 20 seconds from pressing the power button to face unlock and ready on my personal but expensive laptop. However, not everyone will need a £1K laptop so this one will do. Businesses should pay attention to this issue though.

8. Echo Dot (3rd Gen) - Smart speaker with Alexa

You don't need to feel lonely working from home. Have Alexa for company, in fact, she may boost your productivity if she can help you with searching the web, shopping and providing ideas. All work-related of course. Keep in touch with your family and ask them for cups of tea through the speaker. If you are taking a break you can also play some music.

10. Closer to Nature Artificial 2ft 6" Kentia Palm Tree

Ok, so here many of you will want a real plant. For guys like me, we just want an evergreen plant that we don't have to look after, especially due to the likelihood of it being spotted during those many zoom calls. If you are like me, an Artificial Silk Plant will do.

Bonus ideas

  • A yoga mat is a good idea if you are into stretching quickly before during or after work without too much sweat. You could even work from the mat for a limited time.
  • A programmable coffee maker will be a must for some
  • A Multiple USB charging station allows you to charge your devices while you work. This example can charge up to 8 devices.
  • A Headset with microphone will be needed if working from home
  • Also, consider getting a decent printer. Decent because a cheaper printer might be very expensive in the long run. An ink printer is cheaper to buy but more expensive to run. I remember print cartridges costing me £40 each time for one colour and black HP cartridge which seemed to run out in no time due to work and the daughter's school work. I now recommend a laser printer which will be more expensive to buy.
In a lot of cases, employers will be happy to meet the cost of the home setup but the more personalised you want to get, the more you will have to add to that budget. The only exemptions are when reasonable adjustments are required by law.
