Another Leaked firmware; I9300XXDLH9_I9300OXADLH9_I9300XXLH9_HOME at sammobile. Leaked yesterday (31 August 2012). No word from Samsung except to say the official update will be out in September UPDATE: I have given this a run and DON'T DO IT. VERY VERY VERY BUGGY! I have gone back to I9300XXDLH8
Just downloading the Jelly Bean leaked yesterday (I9300XXLH8) which should be pretty close to the final version. I'm hoping this will have addressed the issues identified in my previous post. Well, I'll be in touch if samsung delays the official release any longer.
So i have used the latest 2 leaked android 4.1 jelly bean on my international Galaxy s3. The latest one was leaked yesterday. I am aware that we could be getting the real thing as early as next Wednesday. The leaked firmware is still very buggy as expected but gives you a real taste of what's to come. The only thing i could not test drive was the new S Memo app called S Note lite which kept crashing. More detail here; http://blog.gsmarena.com/android-4-1-jelly-bean-for-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-hands-on/ and I for 1, can't wait :)
Just got a new boxed galaxy s3 from eBay (an unwanted upgrade) for £100 pounds less. It turns out that the phone was locked to T - mobile because it asks for a pin even though the network it available. Any attempt to call or send an SMS results in the above error. To check if your phone is locked type in *#7465625# as if you were making a call. If network lock says on then your phone is locked. You will need to buy an unlock code from the internet and the phone will be unlocked within 3 hours. If your phone is unlocked and you still get this error just activate your data on the phone.
I recently attempted to update my girlfriend's galaxy s i19000 with the value pack via kies on usb. Kies showed an error saying it could not recognise the device and that i should disconnect and take the battery out, and turning the phone back on after replacing the battery. The phone would not go past a screen with an icon of a phone with a computer showing a broken link between the phone. I thought i had had it and lost everything. The phone was no longer responding. The forums seemed to suggest taking it to sumsang. I decided to use a software called Odin which is freely available on the net. I also needed firmware which is also freely available on sites like sammobile.com. The method is so simple and very quick. It took just under 3 minutes. The phone is now up to date and no data was lost including settings. The lesson here is that kies is crap and could cause major disruption. Imagine if i had lost all the data, photos and everything.
With Samsung refusing to even confirm the name of their next galaxy, many can hardly wait to see what it brings. The good news is that the announcement comes tomorrow evening (4th May 2012) in the UK. Early speculation suggests a better camera and video quality, never seen before processor with better battery usage, ics as stock, own version of siri (s talk) and many more. Well, only a few more hours to go :-).
So if you have now got your ics update you will be over the moon. I have had mine for a few days and i have to say, it's the best mobile phone operating system i've ever used (yes i've used ios longer than i've been on android). I'm not going to go into this though. I've noticed one problem which is battery drain. Now i don't know the technical stuff apart from things like turning off bluetooth, wifi, etc saves battery. I'm gonna tell you that you don't need to change any of the settings you had before the upgrade. What you need to do is let your battery go flat and then charge it fully from the mains not bluetooth. Do this a few times (usually takes a week of using ics to sort the problem out) and the system seems to optimise battery use and should be back to how it was before the upgrade.
I have been searching and testing several products on the android market for a while. Previously, i may have said that evi was quite good. Having done more testing, i think i like the speaktoit assistant. It's more advance than all all the ones i've used so far. It can also do a lot more tasks and comes closer to holding a conversation than the others. So have a look on the market and see what you think.

So I finally got the 10.1 tablet thanks to the Mrs. The question was whether to get the more expensive 3g one or the cheaper wifi one. Being a proud owner of the samsung galaxy s2 phone, I knew that I could always tether my 3g which would make it a wifi hotspot. Also knowing that I could make calls and texts from the phone meant that the wifi tablet would be enough for me. I also no longer own a desktop PC. All my photos, files and music are now on the tablet. Remember, you can store some of your stuff on the google cloud and use various apps to access them
For those of you that can't wait to see what the Firmware upgrade will look like here is a link. There ia a download and installation instructions. This is a leaked version and is buggy. Only install at your own risk. Apparently the real thing will come out within the next 3-4 months if you are patient. http://oxzanofilms.blogspot.com/2012/01/stable-ice-cream-sandwich-on-samsung.html
I've just found out that if you download a video it goes in downloads where you can play it from. However, if you delete it from downloads it will still show in gallery. To make sure that it's completely deleted, delete from both downloads and gallery.
